On Aug 16th, 944 A.D., a sacred and mysterious cloth bearing the image of Christ—known as the "The Image Not Made By Hands”—was transferred from the city of Edessa (located in modern Turkey) to Constantinople. That event has been commemorated ever since as an annual Feast Day in the Orthodox Church. In the hymn for the feast we sing of “Thy Most Pure Image,” emphasizing the veneration of this unique linen cloth, which ever since its (re)discovery in Edessa in the mid-6th century, has served as the prototype for all Orthodox iconography of Jesus Christ.

Is the Image of Edessa the same cloth we know today as the Shroud of Turin? Could it be the actual Burial Shroud of Christ? And, could the Resurrection be the cause of this Most Pure Image?

Join us for a remarkable journey through history, science, iconography, and Church tradition and hymnography, as we probe the path of the Shroud, and seek answers to one of the most compelling enigmas of our age.
