The Early Years

February 8, 1976

  • Six families gather at the YMCA in Walnut Hills to celebrate their first Divine Liturgy as the All Saints Mission Orthodox Christian congregation.

1976 – 1982

  • Fr. Daniel Rentel and family commutes from Columbus to Cincinnati twice a month to serve Divine Liturgy. Service schedule increases to vespers and Liturgy four weekends per month.

Summer, 1976

  • The Holy Spirit Bulgarian Orthodox Church offers their church hall for the All Saints Mission to operate from, less than 2 miles from the YMCA.

February, 1977

  • The parish chooses the permanent name, Christ the Savior Mission.

September, 1978

  • Visit from Patriarch MAXIM of Bulgaria.

Fall, 1979

  • Participated in Cincinnati Folk Festival at the Convention Center.

Fall, 1982

  • Fr. Gregory Sinatra becomes the 1st full-time priest.

Summer 1984

  • Fr. Gregory Sinatra is replaced by Fr. John Boylan.

September, 1985

  • The first Divine Liturgy is served at 4285 Ashland Avenue, after being purchased in August.

May, 1986

  • The Altar at Ashland Ave is consecrated by Bishop Boris.

Summer, 1988

  • Fr. John Boylan is replaced by Fr. Kyril Hartman who commutes from Toledo every Sunday.

Summer, 1989

  • Fr. Steven Kostoff and his family arrive from Canada.

Autumn, 1991

  • The parish officially changes its name to Christ the Savior-Holy Spirit Orthodox Church.
