Dear Parish Faithful,

FYI

Quite a full weekend for Terry and the Kairos ministry! Our special gratitude to Terry in continuing in this prison ministry over the years, and thus continuing to be a faithful representative of our parish in fulfillment of the Gospel command to "come to those in prison." (MT. 25:36)

_____

Brethren in Christ,

I want to thank all of you who prayed for us, or baked cookies, or cooked meals, or just kept us in your thoughts during the Kairos weekend and the follow-up Saturday.  It was a wonderful and Spirit filled adventure.

I was blest to be able to counsel an African Muslim who had just received Christ in his life.  And I prayed with a man whose 26 yr old son had just died of a drug overdose.  I also shared with two men who are going through painful and bitter divorces - one of them a new believer.  And sadly, I shared with a gang member who knew that he is missing "someone," in his life, but likes the gang life of drugs and money too much to give his life to Christ.  (But I'm not giving up on him.  He gets prayed for daily.)

So, I want to thank you all for being part of this amazing weekend.  God bless you.

Dear Parish Faithful,

Don't Forget:  if you plan to bake cookies for Kairos Prison Ministry, bring them to church, this Sunday.  Leave them on the table just inside the Hall, and I'll pick them up during the week. Please pack them in gallon freezer bags, one dozen per bag.

Also, If you are willing to pray for the weekend, there is a sign-up sheet on the table just inside the hall.  Put your name on each time slot during which you will be praying.  You can pray for us anywhere - home, office or in the park.  There is no need to come to the church. (It will very likely be locked.)

Thank you all for your assistance!  May you all be blessed.

KAIROS Cookie Bakers Needed! Bless the Prisoners from Your Kitchen!

October 12, 2018

Dear Friends,

Jesus said, "I was hungry, and you fed me."  Kairos is coming up soon, and we all have an opportunity to bake some cookies for Jesus - in the persons of men in prison.  If you are willing to take part in this ministry, here's how:

Bake a few dozen cookies - either from scratch or from pre-formed dough.  Pray over them while you are making them, because they are a symbol of God's love to the men who receive them.  Let them cool completely (so they don't stick together) and them package them in one gallon zip lock freezer bags, one dozen per bag.   Carefully lay the bags flat in a box, then bring them to the Parish Hall on Sunday, November 4. In this way, you will be what Paul calls "fellow laborers" in the Kairos Prison Ministry.

We give every man in the prison a bag of cookies, and if one man in a cell gets cookies that are perceived to be bigger or better than his cell mate got, It can lead to a fight.  so  we suggest using the pre-formed dough such as one can buy at GFS. The pre-formed dough makes the perfect size cookie - about 3" diameter.  Chocolate chip are always a favorite.  But you can make any kind you wish.

Some folks choose to make Rice Crispie treats or brownies, and these are really appreciated by the men on the weekend.  We do hold these apart for use inside the chapel, lest we start a riot!

If you have any questions, please call me at 513-403-1578, and  I'll gladly provide an answer.

Announcing KAIROS Weekend 20, Autumn 2018!

September 12, 2018

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The next Kairos weekend (#20) is coming up soon.  Team building will begin on Saturday, September 29, and the team will enter Warren Correctional on November 8.  Any of our men would be welcome to take part.  I will be in the church hall after liturgy this Sunday to answer questions and get you started on a Matthew 25 journey.

And Ladies, if you would like to be part of this weekend, Let me know. There are opportunities to take part in meal preparation.  (I'll get you connected with the Kitchen Coordinator.)  Or if you would like to be part of an inside team, we would welcome you to serve at the Dayton C I for Women.  Let me know if you are interested.

And everyone, we will need Godly folks to pray for the weekend, and to make home-made cookies.  There will be more information on these ministries in the near future.

Remember that it was Jesus who said, "I was in prison, and you visited me."
